Yukon Infrastructure Plan

New Icon What We Heard - A report summarizing the public and stakeholder meetings held in the spring for the development of the Yukon Infrastructure Plan. The consultation helped to confirm the existing state of infrastructure in Yukon, identify needs and gaps, and to identify the most significant 10 to 15 year infrastructure priorities in each community. The meetings held from March 31 to mid May 2009, included face-to-face meetings with First Nation governments, municipalities, Local Advisory Councils and the public.

The Yukon Infrastructure Plan, which will be completed later this fall 2009, will include an extensive list of both short and long-term infrastructure priorities for Yukon with a focus on five key categories identified under the Building Canada Fund: drinking water; wastewater; solid waste; roads; and green energy. The Yukon Infrastructure Plan will be used to help identify projects that are eligible for funding under the Building Canada Fund, beginning 2009/10 and through to 2014.

The Yukon Infrastructure Plan will focus on five key areas - drinking water, wastewater, roads, solid waste management and green energy infrastructure. Particular emphasis will be placed on addressing issues and needs associated with existing development and existing infrastructure. By focusing on these areas, Yukon will help to ensure that the base infrastructure for all Yukon communities is brought up to standard and will be available to support the needs of communities well into the future.

There are fourteen other eligible categories supported by the program which may be considered as a secondary focus as the Yukon Infrastructure Plan is developed and implemented.

The results of the consultation process (see " What We Heard") along with technical information obtained during the planning process will be used to develop the Yukon Infrastructure Plan which will act as a guide for prioritizing the infrastructure projects that are considered in each year of program operation.

Drawing from the Yukon Infrastructure Plan, the Government of Yukon is required to submit Annual Capital Plans to Canada that outline the proposed projects to be undertaken in each year.
