Ross River Suspension Bridge

Update - March 2016

BackgroundRoss River Bridge tower

In 2014, the Yukon government committed to the community of Ross River and Ross River Dena Council that a solution would be found to stabilize the Ross River suspension bridge.

Public safety continues to be a priority and we are pleased that an appropriate solution was found and that work is underway.

Progress report

Design work, at a cost of $160,000, is now complete for Phase 2 of the bridge to replace the stairs, cabling and decking

Next steps

Ross River Bridge

The next step is to secure funding. We have submitted a proposal to Canada under the New Building Canada Fund.

Once funding is confirmed, we can proceed with the completion of Phase 2. The proposed work will preserve the character of the original bridge.

We recognize the importance of the Ross River suspension bridge to your community and appreciate your ongoing support. The bridge will serve as a connection to the history of the region and the territory, as well as provide access across the Pelly River for pedestrians.

We look forward to the reopening of the bridge to pedestrian use when this second phase is complete.
